There is nothing worse than starting a major cooking project and discovering your main tool, your cooking knives, are dull. There are three types of manual knife sharpeners to consider. Electric sharpeners are easy but they can take the temper out of a good steel knife.

The first sharpener is the traditional sharpening steel. This is simply a fine round file with a simple handle. You can buy them ready made or put one together from two simple parts found at any hardware store. Sharpening steels are quick and will put a nice edge on your favorite cooking knife. You simply stroke the steel down each side of the blade a few times.

A newer design out on the market is a handheld sharpener. A simple handle holds two small pieces of steel at an angle. A hand guard protects you from slips. You run the tool down the knife blade to put on a nice new edge.

For the professional cook the way to go is a ceramic sharpening stone. These are two to three ceramic rods mounted in a frame. The rods are of increasing smoothness so you can work your way down to an extremely fine edge.

When reading a review of onion goggles, the product-s positive feedback will speak for its self. Onion goggles, sometimes called onion glasses are designed to protect your eyes from the vapors that the onion gives off while you are chopping them.

The goggles are outlined with a foam seal that comfortably rest on the eyes. Designed to fit the face like a regular pair of sunglasses, the colors available depends on the suppler. Common colors are red, black, pink, brown and white. Some goggles are two-toned. A storage case is also included with the goggles to help keep them clean.

The average price for the onion goggles is 19.95 per pair plus shipping and handling charges. The cost of the onion goggles depends on the seller. They are available for purchase on nearly every website that sells kitchen gadgets. They make a great home warming present.

Of those who have tried the onion goggles the feedback is over 90 positive. Only a small number of reviewers were upset because the product did not fit their face’s frame. Other than the onion goggles size, the product reviewers were pleased with the way the onion goggles protected their eyes from the onion-s gases.

LaVena-s fried chicken or Mom-s cottage cheese cookies. Secret recipes passed from one cook to another. We are not talking about a copyrighted recipe for a food manufacturer or swank restaurant. These are the recipes of our heritage. These recipes that are linked to our past, our memories, our childhoods. We treasure these as we do Grandma-s good silver.

Did you mother carry copies of her special recipes in her handbag to share when folks clamored over them and begged for her secret recipe? They were not really secret, but cherished. And a way of showing that someone was dear to her would be to share her recipe.

We cling to our friends and relatives who are gone by keeping their memories alive. One way we do this is to pay them tribute by continuing to use their secret recipes. We keep them close to us as we measure out the flour and remember to add just a pinch of this or that, and use the clean tea towel to cover the bowl when plastic wrap would work just as well.

Secret recipes are not made to be kept secret, but to be passed on with the love that was given to us.

There are many ways to make money on the Internet. Selling unwanted items on Ebay is perhaps the best known. A person can write articles and sell their services as a writer. Others post pictures and get paid a royalty each time their particular picture is used. One way of making a money a person often does not think about it is to find places to submit their recipes online.

A person can make money with his recipes and he does not always need to do it with the Internet. A good way to find out if his recipes have what it takes to make it elsewhere should submit the recipes in competitions. The prize for the competition will be spelled out by the person holding the contest. Of course, if you choose to enter your recipe into a competition, you are taking a risk. There is no guarantee that the judges will consider your recipe to be the best.

The best strategy to increase a person’s chance of success of earning money with his recipes through competition is to submit the recipes to multiple sources. A person who uses his recipes to compete for money should not expect to get rich. It can provide some extra money.

Often when you want to start cooking, you will think that any pot and pan set will work. However, that could easily be a mistake that you can make in choosing just any set. That is when you should know about why you need to use the top-rated cookware.

One reason that you will want to use this is the higher rated cookware is typically more durable. Since it is more durable you will notice that it can last for a longer period of time. However, when you use the lower rated items you will see that you need to replace the cookware almost right away because it can warp, burn food, or even worse leave flecks inside of your food.

Another reason that you should use the higher rated items is they will normally be of a good brand name. When you have the good brand name, you will see that it can lead to the maker standing behind a warranty rather than trying to place the blame back on you.

Being able to know about why you should be using the top-rated cookware is a good thing. Without knowing about why you should use this you could see that it is impossible to have the quality pans that you want when cooking.

This article discusses the top gadgets for cooks. Cooking is one of the joys of life for those that love to cook for their family and friends. Below are some of the top gadgets used for cooking.

Mandolins are great items to use when making salads. Mandolins and spirilizers are great when cutting vegetables like cucumbers, zucchini and carrots. They make salads look beautiful and of restaurant quality. These items are also great for making raw “pasta” you take zucchini or squash and it makes pasta-like noodles. These are great for those on a diet, you can add pasta sauce, pesto or anything other type of sauce.

Ice Cream scoopers for gourmet cupcakes are another great gadget when you have alot of cupcakes to prepare for a party or event. Just scoop the ice cream scooper into the batter and release into the cupcake liner. This is a great technique for cupcakes that are uniform in size and is faster, and less messy than using a spoon.

Speaking of cakes, frosting pens are a great new gadget that makes decorating alot easier. When using the electronic frosting pen, instead of using a messy frosting bag, you can write things alot easier. This pen allows for writing messages on cakes and cupcakes in a precise way.

I was a rock star at every event I went to this holiday season when I showed up with what I like to call my “go to” wow-the-party recipe. It’s easy, incredibly visually impressive, and best of all, absolutely yummy. Trust me, you absolutely cannot go wrong with this one it’s perfect for elegant parties as an appetizer and equally appreciated at football gatherings. Try it, you’ll love it!Ingredients

4 packages of 8 ounce softened cream cheese

1 cup softened butter

2 teaspoons fresh ground black pepper

1 jar (5 3/4 ounces) drained chopped/sliced pimiento-stuffed olives

8 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese (or combination cheddar and Colby jack)

3/4 cup apple juice

2 1/4 teaspoons good quality Hungarian paprika

1 cup chopped pecans

Seedless grapes for garnish

Assorted crackers

Directions

In a bowl, beat the cream cheese and butter until smooth.

Remove 3 1/2 cups to a small bowl; stir in pepper and set aside.

Fold olives into the remaining cream cheese mixture.

Spread evenly over the bottom of a 9-in. ungreased spring form pan and set aside.

In another large bowl, beat cheddar cheese, cider and paprika on low speed for 1 minute.

Beat on high until almost smooth. Spread half of this over olive layer already in spring form pan.

Layer with peppered cheese mixture that was set aside in step 2.

Top with remaining cheddar mixture.

Cover with plastic wrap; refrigerate for 6 hours or overnight.

Before serving, place on serving platter and remove sides of pan. Press pecans into top of torte and garnish with a cluster of grapes in the center. Serve with crackers.

Note: I encourage you to not be intimidated by the number of steps in the preparations process. It’s simple if you take each step in turn, and takes no more than 25 minutes to prepare (not including chilling time).

If there is someone in your life who loves absolutely everything about cooking you might want to indulge them this holiday season with a gift they’ll feel was purposely selected with them in mind and that’s always an added bonus when receiving a gift. Following are five items we feel are sure to delight. 1.DeLonghi Slow Cooker: With the winter months fully upon us, there’s no better time to enjoy slow cooked meals and there’s no better slow cooker than this one. The programmable timer with three heat settings automatically switches to warm when cooking is complete (up to 10 hours). Removable 5-qt. white ceramic pot goes straight to the table for elegant serving.2.Herb Keeper: Cooks love to cook with fresh herbs, but they’re not always available from the garden and buying them at the grocery store can sometimes lead to costly waste when not stored properly. New innovations in herb keeping now offer a clear plastic keeper that has a removable insert with water fill line and perforated cup for easy draining. The green silicone gasket provides resistance, allowing herbs to rest in a raised position for easy access and lengthened shelf-life. 3.OXO Stainless Steel Mandoline: Holiday meals call for garnishes, and there’s no more precise way to get custom looking garnishes than with a mandolin. This model combines straight and serrated edges for different foods and the crinkle/waffle blade cuts traditional and wide crinkles. It also features julienne and french fry cuts. Stainless runway is textured to prevent sticking. Slice thickness adjusts with the turn of a dial. Safety features include soft-grip food holder, non-slip feet and blade coverage for storage.4.Lodge Cast Iron Deep Skillet and Deep Fry Basket Set: There are few better cooking methods than a cast iron skillet, and this handy duo makes deep frying a snap. The pan is ready-to-use and pre-seasoned and the deep skillet style affords opportunities for not only deep frying but for stews, soups, roasts and more. Let your imagine run wild. 5.Calphalon Waffle Maker: Who doesn’t love the smell of fresh Belgian waffles cooking on a weekend morning? This model features four oversized, deep-pockets and premium opti-heat performance to deliver the yummiest of waffles in the simplest cooking method possible. And cleaning is a snap with the model’s high-performance non-stick interior.
