Home Made Sloppy Joes Beat the Canned Version Hands Down
Sure, a lot of you may think that there’s nothing more simple than opening a can and adding it to browned ground beef to result in a dandy meal of Sloppy Joes. But guess what? The recipe for scratch-made Sloppy Joes is about as easy as any can opening process, but it’s a whole lot tastier and doesn’t have any preservatives so often found in canned foods. Here it is in its 1-2-3 simplicity for your enjoyment.Ingredients
- 3 pounds lean ground beef
- 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed tomato soup
- 1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed French onion soup
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 10 hamburger buns
Directions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef; drain fat.
- Pour in tomato and French onion soups. Fill each can a quarter full with water to rinse the cans out. Pour into meat mixture. Add ketchup and brown sugar. Mix thoroughly.
- Let simmer for 30 minutes. Serve on hamburger buns.
The above receipt serves 10, and while you may not need this volume for a particular meal, it freezes really well. Also, this recipe is perfect as written but can be embellished to your own tastes try adding some green and red pepper or some hot sauce to make it your own signature dish, including the use of buffalo, ground turkey or venison.
